The Paton-Churdan Rockets lost both hoops games to Glidden-Ralston in Glidden Dec. 15.
The girls score was 42-34 in favor of the Wildcats. The Rockets took the early lead and were ahead 7-2 at the end of the first quarter, but the Wildcats came back with 17 points in the second quarter while the Rockets scored only five. creating a tie at 19 at halftime. The Wildcats outscored the Rockets by three points in the third quarter for a 30-27 lead, and they added to the lead in the fourth quarter.
The Rockets held the Wildcats below their average of 47.5 points per game, and well below the 63 points they scored the previous Friday in Glidden against West Harrison.
“This game really came down to execution in the second half,” coach Chris Petersen said. “Unfortunately, Glidden-Ralston simply executed better and hit their free throws down the stretch. We did not do a very good job of converting our lay-ups and shots from the block and after a good first half on the glass, our rebounding really let us down in the second half.”
Carleigh Paup led the Rockets in scoring with 15 points, followed by Sydney Koch with 10, Kasey Lane with four, Grace Geisler with three and Jenna Beyers with two.
Defensively, Lane had 13 rebounds and a steal, Koch had seven rebounds and three steals, Paup had had five rebounds and a steal, Beyers had four rebounds and a steal. Megan Carey and Geisler each had a rebound also.
The Rockets are now 3-3 overall and in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference. The Wildcats are 4-2 overall and in the RVAC.
